Closet-cataloguing computers may not be ubiquitous to every well-heeled household just yet, but speaking generally, revisiting Clueless can make for a strangely current experience—even now, as we toast the film’s 21st anniversary. The immortal Cher Horowitz, beyond being the best-dressed betty in all of Beverly Hills, was way ahead of the curve, stylistically. Who among us wouldn’t happily sport that itty-bitty white Calvin Klein slip dress today (indeed, that piece has proved so iconic that former creative director Francisco Costa even reissued the style back in 2010), albeit perhaps with a pair of Vans or babouches. Horowitz’s wardrobe of nigh-constant costume changes, down to her strappy silver Mary Janes, feels as fresh as ever, thanks in no small part to fashion’s newfound taste for the ’90s—and well, maybe just a splash of bad taste, too. Now that the film is old enough to drink, we’re raising a glass and taking a look at nine current trends the film predated—plus, where to shop them today.
