Alexander Isak in line to make Newcastle debut vs Liverpool after gaining work permit

Alexander Isak is in line to make his Newcastle debut against Liverpool tonight after receiving his work permit.

Isak’s transfer from Real Sociedad was confirmed on Friday but the Sweden international missed Newcastle’s 1-1 draw at Wolves as his visa was not received in time.

But Eddie Howe was hopeful of having the striker in his ranks to face Jurgen Klopp’s side at Anfield and the Home Office has now processed the remaining paperwork and issued clearance.

Isak joined from Real Sociedad for a fee in the region of £60million — a record outlay for Newcastle.

He is Newcastle’s fourth senior signing of the summer after moves for Matt Targett, Nick Pope and Sven Botman.

Isak expressed his delight at moving to Tyneside, saying: “It was a big, big decision for me but it is a decision I am really happy with.

“It is a great, historical club that I think anyone would like to play for, with amazing fans. They were a big part of why I came here – and also the club’s project, which is one that I really believe in.

“I want to win things. I want to reach the goals and targets that the team has.”

Newcastle head to Merseyside still unbeaten at the start of the 2022-23 Premier League campaign, while Liverpool are looking to build on the 9-0 rout of Bournemouth that followed an opening run of three games without a win.
