Balenciaga hits the ground running when it comes to streetwear. In the latest collection from the French label, expect chunky trainers, logo-stamped backpacks and laid-back separates with distinctive branding. Slashed finishes, subtle texturing and popping colours add playful touches to the range.
Founder Cristóbal Balenciaga opened his first boutique in Spain in 1918, but it was forced to close at the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. So he relocated to Paris – and his loyal customers braved the difficult journey just to see his work. Today, his visionary genius lives on in the House that still bears his name, with Creative Director Demna Gvasalia filling each collection with the avant-garde shapes that set Balenciaga clothing apart. Boxy cotton T-shirts, baggy jeans and oversized hoodies bring stand-out profiles to our selection of favourites. Look out for the brand moniker embroidered on cuffs, splashed across shirts and even etched into the glimmering gold frames of sunglasses.
We can’t talk about Balenciaga fashion without mentioning the iconic soles on some of the label’s trainer designs. Since the brand’s initial line of supremely cushioned footwear in 2017, these have become a firm focus and are available in a variety of shades. You can wear these pairs, which give the impression of multiple melded footbeds, as jogging shoes, hiking boots and sartorial statements for a bold silhouette.
