Best Car Speakers For 2022

Factory audio systems for automobiles have never been better. Even the base systems do a fair job reproducing FM broadcasts,  satellite stations and podcasts from your phone. But they are all engineered to a price point, and upgrading the speakers can often yield an audible improvement, especially with base or mid-grade systems. High-end factory systems, often engineered with input from an outside audio company, have also moved the bar considerably, but audiophiles are a discerning bunch with ears tuned to pick up any inconsistencies. And sometimes, you just need to replace a defective or blown speaker.

The good news is aftermarket car audio prices have fallen precipitously in the last decade, while advances in materials and production processes have improved significantly. Combined, they make for higher-quality speakers at a more attractive price point. Quick wiring kits and instructional videos make installation a snap, too.

We selected five outstanding upgraded car speakers to serve a variety of tastes: some excel as drop-in replacements for stock speakers, while more complex sets include separate tweeters to provide more distinct highs. Though the best way to experience rich, powerful bass is to install a separate subwoofer, we selected speakers known to deliver adequate bass response on their own. Each speaker series is available in different sizes to fit specific vehicle applications, but we have linked to the most popular 5.25-inch and 6.5-inch speakers for convenience.
