Black History Month Spotlight- Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
As February and Black History Month comes to an end, Regina Mundi would like to highlight the achievements of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Shai graduated from Regina Mundi in 2012 and went on to attend St. Thomas Moore High School. He got a full scholarship to play basketball at the prestigious University of Kentucky, where he became the starting point guard in his rookie season. After one year, Shai was the 11th overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft. He played his first season with the Los Angeles Clippers, where he quickly earned the role of starting point guard and was voted into the NBA All Rookie Second Team. In his second season in the NBA, Shai made history as the youngest player in NBA history to record a 20 rebound triple double (20 points, 20 rebounds, 10 assists). Shai is currently in his third season in the NBA. He is the starting point guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder, averaging 23.5 points per game. In February of 2021, he surpassed his own record, scoring a career high 42 points. Shai is widely regarded as one of the most exciting young players in the NBA. Shai returned to Regina Mundi in June of 2019 to speak with students and inspire them to work hard to reach their goals.
