Burberry Body EDT: A Beautiful Bauble ~ Fragrance Reviews

Ten years ago, Burberry launched its Body Burberry fragrance collection, which has become a classic. During this time, seven different variants and limited editions were launched – however, all updates happened before 2013. By 2021, only two options remained on the official website – Burberry Body Eau de Parfum and Burberry Body Tender.

The Eau De Toilette version appeared in 2012 as a lighter and greener summer variant – and in 2017 it was discontinued. Maybe it did not live up to expectations.

At one time, the Body Burberry collection was meant to encapsulate Burberry‘s new sensibility. The visual component of this sensuality was portrayed by model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in a beige Burberry trench coat, which you can see in the following video.

Mario Testino shot an ad campaign in the style of Tom Ford – the perfume, the nude body and the Burberry trench coat. The fragrance component of the entire Body Burberry collection was invented by Michel Almairac – and it is to him that we owe the fact that the fragrance was created to be vanishingly cosmetic, in the style of nude cosmetics. The aroma seems to be there, but it is so light and subtle that it’s quite ephemeral. Light translucent background – freshness and tenderness, airiness, calm charm, suggesting eternal youth.

Body EDT Burberry is a transparent fruity-floral composition with a warm and powdery-musky base of Galaxolide, Cashmeran and vanilla. In the role of flowers, the already mentioned warm rose with a powdery violet (before which a refreshing dewy freesia enters) gives way to a very important fruity part, played by a peach-themed accord. It creates the feeling of warm and silky female skin just like in the classic Mitsouko Guerlain, for example, but closer to the more modern Tresor de Lancome with its Hedione-IsoESuper-Ionone-Galaxolide hug-me accord.

Body EDT is a very persistent composition, albeit not bright. In a few hours, the fragrance has time to go through several stages of development – transparent freshness with slightly bitter greens, sweet fruit pulp, soft floral-powdery shine, and warm woody-musky sillage with a subtle tart touch of patchouli.

The transparent background smell of Body EDT can be confused with the scent of women’s cosmetics – especially in the middle of its development. When the green apple-tea accord has not yet separated from the bitter green absinthe, a translucent and soft rose comes to help the warm skin of ripe peaches. In my opinion, the accord of rose, carnation and iris ionones does not quite reach the old-fashioned scent of powders or lipstick – it is quite delicate and subtle – but the modern cosmetic origin in the fragrance is obvious. In addition to its cosmetic DNA, there is something characteristically non-natural or synthetic in it – either hairspray, or the smell of plastic from a new gadget – but it’s not repulsive – it’s neutral and even pleasant.

I can’t call Body Eau de Toilette Burberry a unique, distinctive or very special perfume – but it’s a versatile scent for every season and every situation. It is indescribably neutral – everything that can be said about it is pleasant and feminine. But its magic crystal bottle, which fits any handbag, is Burberry‘s finest bottle, and begs to be taken in hand. Perhaps that is why it is adored by ordinary users who are looking for two or three fragrances for all occasions at once, while perfumistas with hundreds of special fragrances in their collections do not like the perfume.

Body Eau de Toilette can still be found in perfumery stocks and online auctions, it is quite inexpensive (USD 35-55,) and if eau de toilette is your favorite, one and only fragrance, now is the time to stock up.
