Burberry Liquid Lip Velvets Swatches & Review – Lipstick Latitude

It’s no secret to long-time readers that I am in love with Burberry makeup, especially their powder products. The blushes are incredible, and I’ve got more eyeshadow singles from them than any other brand. One thing that never really took off in my collection though is their lipsticks. That’s the one category of makeup I’m hesitant to buy online sight-unseen, partly because I’m finicky about textures, partly because there’s a high risk of duplicating a color I already own. There are no Burberry counters within a six-hour drive of my house, but that just means I have a great excuse to go makeup shopping every time I travel. So when we were in New York last summer I was able to grab the then-fairly-new Burberry Liquid Lip Velvet in Dark Rosewood (a much-coveted shade, according to the SA at Saks), and instantly fell in love with it. Later when I saw a set of them at Sephora in Las Vegas, it was the perfect chance to try a bunch of the shades without breaking the bank. And so here we are, with a long overdue review.
I feel the need to start off by saying the Liquid Lip Velvet Set ($45 and still in stock as of publishing) is an outstanding deal if you like the colors in it, or want to try a few different shades. It’s only $11 more than a single full size Liquid Lip Velvet ($35), but you get four colors. Also, the ‘minis’ are a generous size – 4mL each, versus the 6mL in the full size. If you like even half of the colors, you still get your money’s worth.
But onto the actual review part of this review, yes? I’ve incorporated quite a few different liquid lipstick formulas into my collection at this point, but I’ve had trouble finding the goldilocks one that’s just right. It seems like they all have issues with coverage or wear, or they just plain smell weird. Which completely explains why I’ve gotten so many of the ones from Burberry because they have none of those problems. They glide on like a dream and dry down to a nice modern matte that doesn’t pull the moisture out of my lips. All the colors leave a nice stain, even the light ones – you should have seen me trying to scrub the swatches off my arm! Which brings me to a word of advice. I keep a jar of pointed q-tips on my vanity because they’re useful for everything, but they’re especially handy with these lipsticks. The consistency isn’t runny so I can usually get a clean lip line on the first try, but if you accidentally color outside the lines you’re gonna want to fix that ASAP before it stains your skin. The only down side: these aren’t as long-wearing and transfer proof as some of the more mainstream liquid lip formulas, but I’ll take comfort & beautiful finish over that any day.
A new cosmetic procedure is getting popularity and is becoming a huge trend these days and is the lip augmentation, however, you need to be extra careful which person you choose to do this because it can have pretty bad results if its not done correctly, this lip augmentation training will prepare you to it as a professional. You can learn here various cosmetic treatments such as mole removal.
Between my first one and the mini set, I’ve managed to cover most of the major color families with this formula. That’s another great perk to the set, because kits that come with a red and four different shades of nude irk me. But I digress.
Dark Rosewood is a mid-tone warm rose color that’s great for everyday. It looks similar in the tube to Fawn Rose, but as you can see from the swatches, they’re completely different.
Fawn Rose is a cool, pale pink and honestly, it makes me look dead. Seriously, it is not flattering on my skin tone, though it’s a beautiful color objectively.
Oxblood of course is a Burberry classic, a deep wine burgundy that’s gorgeous for winter. I typically don’t run straight for dark lipstick colors, but this one is fairly easy to wear.
Magenta, in case you couldn’t guess, is my absolute favorite out of the shades I have. The bold fuchsia is a color family I adore, and this one doesn’t pull so cool that it’s hard to build a look around.
Regiment Red is another classic shade, a bright warm red that instantly gives you that hint of vintage glam.
No Burberry review would be complete without me raving about the packaging, so let me just say, these are no exception. Both versions (full size and mini) have a lightweight but solid matte plastic tube that doesn’t show fingerprints or scratch easily. The full size has the familiar gunmetal cap with the iconic Burberry check, and the minis have the same design in bright silver.
In Short: When I want to wear a liquid lip color, these are the ones I’ve been reaching for.
