CHANEL Ombre Première Longwear Cream Eyeshadow in “Scintillance” | Review – Makeup By Makena
I have always wanted one of Chanel’s cream eyeshadows and when I was in Paris, I bought the brand new CHANEL Ombre Première Longwear Cream Eyeshadow in “Scintillance”. It can be purchased on the Chanel Website or at Nordstrom for $36, and is available in 8 different shades, all of which have a satin finish.

~Packaging~
Like all Chanel cosmetics, the packaging looks and feels luxurious, and is both practical and elegant. As you can see, this eyeshadow comes in a glass pot with a lovely lid featuring the iconic logo; it contains 0.14 oz of product, which is the standard amount for this type of eyeshadow. However, as with most things that come in pots, if you have long nails, then it is basically impossible to get the cream onto your finger without accidentally gashing it. Fortunately, this shadow came with a mini rounded brush featuring flat, dense bristles to easily apply the color onto your lids.
~Color~
The shade “Scintillance” is a light, champagne-nude color with warm, peachy-pink undertones. I think this is the most ideal all-over-the-lid shade, especially for Spring and Summer and the color is absolutely stunning. It is most suitable for light to medium-tan skin as a lid shade, but unfortunately, I think it may be too pale to work on deeper skintones. However, I do think it would work on lots of different undertones because even though it is very warm, the pink and peach hues could carry it over to cool-toned skin.
~Formula~
Unlike Chanel’s classic Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Cream Eyeshadows which are said to have an intense metallic finish and more of a gel-like, powdery formula, this has a very smooth and creamy formula with a soft, luminous shimmer throughout. This product is designed to be used alone on the eyelids as a cream eyeshadow or underneath other powder products as an eyeshadow base. Either way, it is highly pigmented, blends effortlessly, and lasts for over twelve hours on my eyes with a primer. Although I was disappointed to discover that some of the ingredients of this product are similar to those of cream eyeshadows at the drugstore, this honestly does look and feel very high quality.
~Application~
Although Chanel states that this eyeshadow works best when applied with the provided brush (which is actually amazing quality considering it is ‘one of those free brushes that comes with the eyeshadow’), this cream performs significantly better when patted on the lid with your fingertips! The very first time I used this eyeshadow my nails were long so I had to apply this with the brush and I was so disappointed with the pigmentation; at first, I thought I would have to write a negative review for this because it just looked like pale shimmer on my lid and disappeared every time I tried to blend out the edges. However, once I (ditched the acrylics and) was able to apply this eyeshadow straight onto my lids with my finger, my opinion completely changed; suddenly, it was very pigmented, glowy, blendable, and long-wearing just like I had hoped it would be. So, if you are interested in this shade, or any cream eyeshadow in general, always make sure to pat it onto your lid with your finger before blending out the edges with a brush!
Overall, I do love using “Scintillance” for my everyday makeup looks and am happy that I bought it, but for the price, I was expecting to be crazy impressed with the formula and although it was really good, it was not mind blowing. If you are interested in purchasing a Chanel product that is easy-to-use and perfect for everyday, then I do highly recommend these Ombre Première Longwear Cream Eyeshadows. If you have a limited budget and want a cream eyeshadow, I would say that although this is really good, this is not completely worth the expensive price tag.
