Calvin Klein Beauty Review

Unlike the most well known Calvin Klein fragrances, Beauty is the only CK fragrance to feature a more elegant and soft nature, versus the dramatic, seductive, and alluring scents of Obsession or Eternity for example.

Calvin Klein Beauty is marketed to the mature and sophisticated elegant woman describing it as the “ultimate femininity”. But Calvin Klein isn’t known for its femininity, and it’s obvious when smelling this scent.

Personally, I think Calvin Klein should stick to what they do best, which is to continue to produce their dramatic classics while being one of the only perfume brands to continually create successful fresh unisex colognes.

This new venture of CK trying to be feminine just doesn’t work. Calvin Klein is the epitome of well tailored and minimalistic clothing, not frilly floral dresses. In other words, you wear a CK power suit to a business meeting, not an afternoon tea party. Likewise you wear a CK fragrance when you want to be taken seriously or when you want to pull off an edge of androgenous attitude, not when you want to be “pretty”. Why try to venture into the feminine when you do power so well, that’s what I’d ask them.

Another reason why this fragrance doesn’t work, apart from the fact CK just doesn’t do feminine, is the minimal effort gone into the fragrance notes itself.  Musk is the most prominent note and overtly predictable. The Lily accord as a top note is where the fragrance should be at its heart; however, it somehow gets lost in the Musk. There is a hint of Jasmine somewhere and although it’s listed as a middle note, you’d never know it was there.

Cedar is also used, but barely detectable. It is nice though as it adds a bit of forest green depth to the scent.  I would have loved to have seen more of this note used, and if so, it would have added a unique character to the scent and made it more complementary to other Calvin Klein scents.

But because the scent mostly smells like a typical musky floral, it is unsophisticated and unoriginal, it doesn’t get a round of applause from me. It’s pleasant to wear, don’t get me wrong, but not a memorable scent in any case and quite amateur smelling for the usually smart and savvy Calvin Klein brand. At least the bottle is in keeping with the clean and minimal CK brand.

Summary: A total flop compared to the usual sophisticated classics and vibrant unisex CK fragrances! This scent smells like a typical musky floral, it is unsophisticated and unoriginal. It’s pleasant to wear, don’t get me wrong, but not a memorable scent in any case and quite amateur smelling for the usually smart and savvy Calvin Klein brand.
