Calvin Klein is enlisting some of the world’s most recognizable faces to tell people to “deal with it.”
The fashion house revealed their new campaign on YouTube that instantly had social media talking for the notable names, as well as the major confidence from the stars. The new video campaign stars pop star Justin Bieber, reality star and model Kendall Jenner, “Old Town Road” superstar Lil Nas X, critically adored R&B-pop darling SZA, Chinese-pop sensation Lay Zhang, actress-model and LGBTQ activist Hunter Schafer, and Colombian music sensation Maluma all sharing messages of self-love.
The short sees the stars declaring their truths and sharing empowering messages. Kendall Jenner tells the camera, “You know you love me” before Lil Nas X chimes in with a “confidence is sexy to me.” SZA wraps things up saying “I am who I am, I like what I like, I love who I love, I do what I want. Deal with it” making for an extremely open-minded and, notably, LGBTQ-friendly campaign for the brand in enlisting both a queer singer and trans actress.
The campaign is also notable for its use of global faces that have found success in the U.S. If the instant reaction on Twitter is any indication, Maluma’s involvement could make for a breakout mainstream moment for the reggaeton/Latin-pop star despite being one of the most dependable hitmakers in his field. As well looking at Lay Zhang, who scored the highest-charting Mando-pop album ever in the U.S. with 2018’s Namanana, will also score a major moment of increased visibility.
The feature was shot by video director Bardia Zeinali, who’s recently directed videos for the likes of Bieber, as well as Ariana Grande, Troye Sivan and Shawn Mendes.
Minutes after revealing their new video campaign, Calvin Klein’s social media accounts began sharing more concept photos from the campaign with Lil Nas X and Hunter Schafer all hinting that the unapologetic vibe of the campaign will likely continue through more bold confident moving forward.
