Chanel Gabrielle Perfume vs Essence | Soki London

When Chanel Gabrielle was released in 2017 I was super excited. We hadn’t seen a brand new fragrance from Chanel for a long time, and when I saw Kristin Stewart was the face of the fragrance, I thought this was going to be a super strong empowering fragrance for the modern woman.

Unfortunately, I have to say I was a little underwhelmed with the original Chanel Gabrielle Eau de Parfum (I prefer the Essence which is reviewed below).

The fragrance is a fairly light, pretty floral. It starts with a super fresh Grapefruit and Mandarin Orange top note; nice. This is followed by Orange Blossom, Jasmine, Ylang-Ylang, and Lilly-Of-The-Valley heart note; also nice. These notes are all supported by a classic musky, woody and cashmere base.

For me, ‘nice’ really is the best word for Chanel Gabrielle. There is nothing special about the fragrance, nothing new, and other which justifies it’s price tag in my view.

In addition, I find the branding confusing. For such a pretty and feminine fragrance, Kristin Stewart feels like the wrong choice.

There is nothing really wrong with Chanel Gabrielle, it’s just that for £120 for the 100ml, I expect to be blown away. I also expect the fragrance to last really well, but Chanel Gabrielle Eau de Parfum only lasts a couple of hours. If you really want it to last you need to buy the Parfum Extrait which I’m afraid is £250.
