According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, women make up 46% of the workforce in the financial services industry. However, their representation declines as they move up the corporate ladder. In fact, women make up only 22% of financial services executives.
As a woman representing that 22% in leadership positions, I am committed to breaking down barriers and paving the way for other women and minorities to succeed in the business world. There are a number of things that can be done to increase the number of women in leadership roles in finance. Here are a few examples:
• Create a more inclusive workplace culture. This means creating an environment where women feel comfortable speaking up, taking on new challenges, and being promoted. It also means addressing unconscious bias and challenging stereotypes about women’s abilities.
• Target recruitment and retention efforts for women. This could include things like offering scholarships and internships to women, and creating a pipeline of female talent for leadership roles.
• Hold leaders accountable for diversity and inclusion. This means setting goals for increasing the number of women in leadership roles, and tracking progress over time.
Studies have shown that companies with more women in leadership roles are more profitable and innovative.
