With its pale lavender tones that can be misconstrued as pink, the Chanel Eaux de Chanel Paris-Paris fragrance is subtle yet palpable in its essence. Its bottle is simple with rounded edges as it fits snugly into the hand with this new travel-sized version. The bottle’s silhouette can be likened to Parisian stone buildings in early morning along with its black bio-based cap with the House’s intertwining double Cs. It’s inspired by the City of Lights, where the Maison’s founder Gabrielle Chanel lived and was inspired.

Created by perfumer Olivier Polge, who was firstly enthralled by the piano as a teenager. Professionally speaking, he traded music notes for fragrance notes. “When, at 20 years old, I started learning the trade, I discovered that music and perfume shared the same language. I was going to have to compose and write formulas made of notes and chords,” says Polge in House notes.

He’s Chanel’s fourth perfumer, succeeding his father Jacques Polge. He has created fifteen fragrances since his time at Chanel, like the differentiating Les Exclusifs de Chanel collection and the Les Eaux de Chanel collection. This fragrance, Paris Paris- Les Eaux de Chanel, a Polge creation is not just and ode to Paris in general, it’s an ode to Parisian women. It follows them from a Parisian café where they have a morning espresso and a croissant, to the various tasks that they have throughout a day.

Notes of Damascena rose, fresh citrus, pink peppercorn extract, and patchouli make up the personality of the fragrance. “With Paris-Paris, I created a sparkling floral composition inspired by the effortless elegance of Parisian women,” says Olivier.

Paris-Paris is a part of the larger Les Eaux de Chanel collection of scents inspired by the places Gabrielle Chanel found significant during her lifetime. “Each of them has left its mark on one of these fragrances,” continues Polge. The first was Paris-Biarritz in 2018. With notes of grapefruit and mandarin, as well as lily-of-the-valley and vetiver, it’s reminiscent of the ocean vibes of Southwest France. Later that year came Paris- Deauville-Paris-Venise. In 2019 came Paris-Riviera that’s an ode to Côte d’Azur. And 2021 saw Paris- Édimbourg, a recognition of the Scottish countryside with notes of juniper berry and cypress, that include cedar and vetiver.

This new fragrance is light yet poignantly distinct. Polge has done a fantastic job combining notes that actually work together and that give praise to the charm and personality of Paris.
