Chanel Rouge Coco Lipstick (406 Antoinette and 436 Maggy Swatches)

Chanel claims this lipstick is hydrating, full coverage, and lightweight. In my opinion, they hit the mark on two of those three claims.

I have tried 3 shades in this range over the years and none of them have been full coverage. I do however think they are light weight and lightly hydrating. I think these have a medium coverage, but the shade 436 Maggy is more sheer on initial application than the others I have tried. I don’t consider this to be a bad thing, but it does mean that your natural lip color does play a bigger role in how these shades will appear more than an opaque formula. The formula is comfortable and it doesn’t feather into fine lines around the mouth. As with all Chanel lipsticks, this formula does have a scent. It has the traditional rose scent, that I’m pretty sure Chanel typically uses. I have read that the Rouge Coco line also has a hint of violet to the scent, but I can’t personally pick up on it. The scent is strong enough to smell, but I don’t find it to linger and it doesn’t bother me.

The shade 436 Maggy has prominent shimmer particles and at least on my skin tone it is very noticeable. The more this shade is layered, the more icy it looked because the shimmer particle became more noticeable.

This is my favorites shade of the Rouge Coco lipsticks that I’ve tried. I find that on my skin tone it goes with everything, so I use it frequently. This is my second tube that I just recently repurchased. There is a slight shimmer running through this shade (406 Antoinette) but you can’t feel the particles when you rub your lips together. It does not look shimmery, which I appreciate, and makes my lip lines less noticeable. This shade is nicely pigmented from initial application. But again, I’d say medium coverage is the most it can provide.

The picture below is taken at a different angle to show how icy 436 Maggy can look.

As I mentioned with both shades pictured above, there is some shimmer. In my experience, the shimmer does not separate throughout wear or sink into the lip lines. In fact, with the shade 406 Antoinette, you can barely notice the shimmer unless you are looking at the lipstick bullet. The shade 436 Maggy however, just had too much shimmer for my taste. I do wonder if it is possible that this particular shade is just too light for me personally and that is what makes the shimmer so obvious.

I was able to find a swatch picture of 438 Suzanne, but I no longer have the actual bullet to show. I had the same experience with 438 Suzanne as the shade 406 Antoinette.

I do like the Rouge Coco lipstick in 406 Antoinette enough to not only use it regularly but also to have bought it again. But the truth is, these are pricey lipsticks and there are definitely great options that cost less. However, if you do not mind the price and you find a color that you like, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
