Chanel UV Essentiel Multi-Protection Daily Defender UV · Pollution SPF 50+ Review & Swatches — HelloJaa.com

This product was “a spur of the moment” purchase during my recent visit to the Chanel counter. I was only there to stock up on my all-time favorite Démaquillant Yeux Intense Gentle Bi-Phase Eye Makeup Remover but a few minutes later I walked out with a Chanel sunscreen in my shopping bag, too. This happens way too many times for me; going in for one thing and coming out with extras! So what was it that was so alluring about this particular(ly expensive) sunscreen? If there’s any? Well, I’ll tell you all about it in this post!

Chanel UV Essentiel Multi-Protection Daily Defender UV · Pollution SPF 50+ comes in a pretty small bottle (containing only 30 ml/1 fl oz of product) for something that you’re supposed to use daily and religiously! It has a great look certainly, with the immaculate black and white ensemble that is classic Chanel, but still I can’t help feeling slightly uncomfortable paying the price. But curiosity kills right? 🙂

There are 2 levels of SPF to choose from: SPF 50/PA+++ and SPF 30/PA+++, each caters to different lifestyles, skin types, and climate changes. I went with the SPF 50/PA+++ because I need to be protected for as long as possible (I don’t usually re-apply sunscreen during the day). The formula is heavily scented which is typical of Chanel makeup. It’s a strong floral scent that doesn’t seem to bother me but those sensitive to fragrance may want to smell it in person first. The scent does linger for about a half hour after application for me.

Chanel combined the power of Zinc Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, and Octinoxate as active ingredients to give skin a full, broad-spectrum protection against the sun’s UVA and UVB rays as well as infrared and indoor lighting. Another “fancy” ingredient worth mentioning is the “tiare flower extract” which is proven to boost 4.7x the expression of SPRRs, the skin’s innate protein that safeguards the cell from external aggressors.

Full ingredients

Aqua, Zinc Oxide, Hydrogenated polyisobutene, Alcohol, Caprylyl Methicone, Ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate, Titanium Dioxide, Glycerin, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Lauryl PEG-9 Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Gardenia Tahitensis Flower Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra Root Extract, Diethylhexyl syringylidene malonate, Dipropylene glycol, Stearic Acid, Aluminum hydroxide, Butylene Glycol, Parfum, Caprylyl Glycol, Ectoin, Phenoxyethanol, Alumina, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Propylene carbonate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Pentylene Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Silica, BHT, 3-aminopropane sulfonic acid, Polysorbate 20, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Tocopherol

It is advised to shake the bottle well before use. The product dispenses yellowish white in color, and together with the thick-liquid formula, you’ll need to spend a minute or so massaging it in. It spreads and blends easily, though. Once absorbed, the product leaves a very slight white cast (but not ashy) behind but no greasiness or oiliness. It also moisturizes and offers subtle radiance so your skin appears brighter and dewier.

The added bonus is it doubles as a good makeup base! The formula’s smoothing effect preps and primes the skin so makeup has something to hold on to. It feels comfortable throughout wear without causing extra oil production. Despite being heavily perfumed, my skin seems to take it well without irritation.

Chanel UV Essentiel Multi-Protection Daily Defender UV · Pollution SPF 50+ is obviously a luxe sunscreen. It’s not my ride or die but it feels good to splurge and pamper yourself once in a while. It provides high level of sun protection while doubles as an excellent makeup primer, combining two necessary steps in one. I don’t feel right suggesting that this is a must-have product but I do urge you to give it a try in person. You may suddenly feel like splurging on something fancy very much like I did!
