Chanel’s ‘Dad’ Sandals Are The Most Popular Shoes Online Right Now

The luxury labels latest summer must-have is a nod to normcore and athleisure trends, striking a perfect balance between comfortable and chic, Chanel’s ‘dad’ sandal is the internets go-to shoe right now.

Every fashion a-lister and their mam suddenly seems to have a pair — Alexa Chung, Chiara Ferragni, and countless other fashion bloggers and Instagram stars have managed to get their hands on a pair.

We want in.

The questionably-stylish sandals combine a touristy aesthetic with the ‘ugly’ trainer trend phenomenon, and the iconic double ‘C’ logo to create the holy grail of summer comfort; the ‘dad’ sandal.

We’ve previously waxed poetic about the comfort-meets-class appeal of the ‘ugly’ summer sandal, and how lockdown has brought upon the rise of the ‘indoor’ shoe. Chanel getting on board simply cements the trend in fashion history.

The slip-ons originally went on sale summer of 2019, but it is this year and our cravings for comfort (and outdoor staycations) that have seen them rise to superstardom.

The only issue is that Chanel only does e-commerce for beauty and small accessories. So unless you managed to get a pair last year, you’re a bit out of luck. Resale sites like Vestiare Collective and eBay have been stocking the occasional pair, but these sell out in record time.

So, to help, we’ve searched for a few alternatives so you, too, can get on board with the shoe of summer 2020.

First up is to head to as close to the source as possible. if you’re willing to pay the designer price tag of close to €1,500 for the originals then resale sites are a good place to start. This pair from Vestiare Collective is even adorned with little ‘Cs’ throughout if you’re a bit of a logo-lover.

Next up is from another designer brand who currently have a similar offering on sale. Kurt Geiger’s Orson sandals bear a striking resemblance to the Chanel original — featuring a similar platform sole, two velcro buckles and an ankle strap.

The Orson sandals even come in a tweed pattern, which is very Chanel-esque. The Kurt Geiger option is considerably easier on the pocket, at just under €200 a pair.

These technically did come out last year but are still available to shop online from department stores like Selfridges.

Another pair that we love that hit all the marks trend-wise are the Sonia sandals from Ducie.

Ducie began as one of the most coveted luxury labels in London’s fashionable Portobello market and has many emphatic celebrity customers including Poppy Delevigne and Sienna Miller.

The Sonia sandals cost €177 online and feature two quilted straps and a genuine leather platform sole. A really good dupe for the Chanel original and a genuinely great designer buy too.

Dr Martens, iconic in their own-rite, Voss sandals, and Australian label Melissa’s Cosmic Sandals II are both pretty good followers of the trend too. They’re both a similar shape — wide-strap platforms. only lacking the ‘dad’ sandal trademark of velcro.

After you’ve chosen your biggest and perfect pair, the only questions left are to run the daring and questionable route of the socks-and-sandals combination, or not?
