Chanel’s Original and Iconic Première Watch Makes a Comeback

Chanel’s emblematic Premiére timepiece has made its return after over three decades. As the luxury Maison’s first horological effort, the original watch was conceived in 1987 by Jacques Helleu, the brand’s Artistic Director at the time.

The re-issued Premiére model honors the original watch with subtle design upgrades. Attired in an octagonal silhouette that references the N°5 perfume bottle, the case is crafted from steel before being doused in a coating of 18k yellow gold, complete with an onyx cabochon-set crown.

Adding to the Premiére’s many iconic features, the bracelet is presented as a chain strap with interwoven leather straps that are typically used on Chanel’s quilted handbags. The center of the watch houses a lustrously smooth black lacquer dial, free of indices, numerals, date display, and hands. Lightly embellishing the watch face are two minimalistic gold hands and monochromatic branding. Beating inside the timepiece, its high-precision quartz movement powers all of the watch’s time-telling functions with a 3 ATM water resistance.

The Chanel Premiére Édition Originale is currently available for the price of $5,500 USD/ £5,200 GBP. To purchase or to read more about the timepiece, head over to Chanel’s official website.

In celebration of the re-release, a special pop-up was set up earlier this week in Hong Kong’s IFC mall. The Chanel Premiére Funfair pop-up will remain on view until May 7, 2023.
