Crown DC-300A

It is a solid, reliable like a Kalashnikov, Horse of Work.. About 20-25 or so years old, never serviced, never a problem. I have opened it to see how it was built, nice solid American parts, simple circuit. I expect it will continue to work for around 10 to 20 more years without any trouble. Say what you will about vintage Crown amps, they are hard to kill. In this situation, I predict the power supply filter caps are needing replaced. Hum in both channels nearly screams this diagnosis… (Capacitors are the most vulnerable to aging failures of all components) Easy to do, a good Tech should be able to swap caps for around $100.00 or so. You might do it yourself, save some cash, and have pride of accomplishment… Find some surplus dealers and buy some NOS or “pulls” or surplus run, caps of the same or more MFD’s and same or more voltage rating.. Parts alone should cost $20-$50??? If I shopped around my usual parts haunts here in L.A., I could probably find ’em for around $10.00 or so… You put them in, there should be two of them, perhaps four of them… one (or two) Plus DC, and one (or two) Minus DC. I don’t know, never seen a DC300A circuit.
And was that Tycobrahe Sound co? Using DC300’s in the 1970’s? I know some of the personnel from then, and I know they used DC300’s cause I seen ’em. Rolf.
