For the first time in Burgas – the original space suit of Alexander Alexandrov

On the occasion of Aviation and Astronautics Day – April 12, for the first time in Burgas, Alexander Aleksandrov’s original space suit arrives in the hall of the Historical Museum (31, Lermontov Str).
Alexandrov is the second Bulgarian astronaut, flew aboard the Soviet spacecraft “Symphony TM -5” along with the commander of the flight Anatoly Yakovlevich Soloviev and the bordenerator Victor Savinich. Their mission continued from 7 to 17 June 1988.
The space suit is now part of the collection of Historical Museum Omurtag, the birthplace of the cosmonaut.
Alexander Alexandrov was born on 1 December 1951. In 1977, Alexandrov was chosen as a cosmonaut in the second group of the Intercosmos program. On March 1, 1978, he arrived at the Astronautics Training Center. He prepared for the space flight in 1979, where he was double for the first Bulgarian cosmonaut, Georgi Ivanov. Nine years later, in June 1988, Alexandrov became the second Bulgarian to fly into space.
The official opening of the collection “Bulgarian Cosmic Glory” will take place at 16:00 on 12.04.2018 (Thursday) at the Historical Exposition of RHM-Burgas, special guests will be the officials from Omurtag Municipality.
The curious exhibit will remain in Burgas until 1 June.
