How to Compress a Video for YouTube Upload

  • Open Windows Movie Maker, and then open the video file you want to compress. You can do this either by clicking the right side of the window to browse for files or by clicking and dragging the video file into the Windows Movie Maker window.

    Play the video to make sure you have done all the edits you want and that there is no “dead space” at the end of the video. The video should stop playing as soon as your last clip has played. If it keeps playing but the screen is blank, check for any leftover media clips after the end of your video. If you don’t delete this extra footage, Windows Movie Maker will end up saving that into your final video, taking up more time and making the file size larger.
