How to watch David Tennant’s brand new drama Litvinenko
David Tennant is back for another real-life dramatisation, this time taking on the role of Alexander Litvinenko – known as “Sasha” to his friends and family – in ITVX’s four-part series Litvinenko.
It will explore the true story of the Scotland Yard police officers who were called on to investigate the poisoning and subsequent death of the former Russian Federal Security Service officer in 2006, with the mysterious and suspicious circumstances gripping the nation’s media attention. It became known as one of the most “complex and dangerous” investigations in Metropolitan Police history.
Litvinenko’s cast is led by Doctor Who and Des star David Tennant, who also executive produced, while Margarita Levieva (The Blacklist) stars as Alexander Litvinenko’s wife Marina, who fought tirelessly for justice for her husband and pushed the UK government for a public inquiry into his death.

Line of Duty and Unforgotten star Mark Bonnar takes on the role of detective Clive Timmons, who headed up the investigation. Also appearing in the show is Neil Maskell, who portrays a detective tasked with interviewing Litvinenko from his hospital bed in the days leading up to his death, as well as Barry Sloane (The Bay), Daniel Ryan (The Bay), and Richard Pepper (Holby City).
Speaking about the series, Tennant explained (via EW), “It’s the story of Alexander Litvinenko, who is admitted to hospital with a very mysterious and terribly fast-moving medical condition.
“The only person who knows what it is, is Alexander Litvinenko himself, who says he’s been poisoned.”
Litvinenko has been billed as one of the big launches to coincide with the introduction of ITVX – the broadcaster’s new free streaming platform, replacing the ITV Hub, which promises a whole host of flagship shows.

What new shows are available on ITVX?
ITVX
ITVX boasted 10,000 hours of content from the day that it launched on December 8, and it’s also been promised that there’ll be a new drop of exclusive programmes every week of the year.
The Confession of Frannie Langton was one of the first new dramas to drop on the streaming platform – we previously pointed out how it’s better than fellow period drama Bridgerton in one key way, so it’s worth checking out if you haven’t done so already.
One for those that love a true story, A Spy Among Friends, starring Guy Pearce and Damian Lewis, is also currently available to binge to your heart’s content.
As for what else is in the pipeline; Line of Duty’s Vicky McClure is fronting Without Sin, which follows a grieving mother as she confronts the man she believes to be responsible for her daughter’s murder.
Joan, a six-part drama inspired by the true story of a notorious jewel thief, will see Game of Thrones favourite Sophie Turner in the leading role.
Russell T Davies (It’s a Sin, Doctor Who) will be making his TV comeback with his brand-new drama Nolly, featuring The Crown’s Helena Bonham Carter as Crossroads star Noele Gordon.
Litvinenko is coming to ITVX on December 15.
