Jennie Makes Her Met Gala Debut in a Vintage Corset Dress From Before She Was Born

Blackpink’s Jennie could likely dream of no better year to make her Met Gala debut. The 27-year-old star is a Chanel ambassador and took the opportunity to pay homage to the fashion house on the 2023 red carpet in an ivory duchesse satin bustier minidress that was embellished with a white camellia affixed to a black ribbon under the bust. The vintage design hails from the fall 1990 ready-to-wear collection — an outfit that was born before the star herself.

Jennie completed her ensemble with Chanel High Jewelry, including a single diamond earring that balanced out the look, since she had a white rosette woven into her braid on the opposite side. She also sported a thick black choker, elbow-length gloves, opaque black tights, and satin close-toed pumps, making for an ensemble that speaks to Chanel’s core elegance first and foremost. Her makeup included shimmering pink eyeshadow, a cat eye, and a glossy red lip. As the face of Chanel, the outfit felt nothing short of fitting as she made her way up the famous Met steps.

Jennie joins a long list of celebrities wearing vintage Chanel from the archives, including cochair Dua Lipa, whose ballgown is from 1992; Nicole Kidman, who rewore an iconic gown that she first debuted in an old Chanel No. 5 ad; and Margot Robbie, whose bodice included clear plastic and gold metal chains, with her ensemble being from the spring 1993 Haute Couture collection.
