Klein (クライン, Kurain), also known as BallsDeep69
(ボールディープ６９, Bōrudīpu69), was a player of Sword Art Online. He is the leader of the Fuurinkazan.

Appearance

In Sword Art Online, Klein wore a red bandana that held up his hair and was tied around his forehead. He had spiky reddish hair. He also had a hooked nose, a slight beard on his cheeks and chin, and, according to Kirito, he looked like a wandering samurai or a bandit. During the two years in Aincrad, he used red robes and black armor resembling those of a samurai including a katana, along with his guild members.

Personality

Klein is portrayed throughout the series as a nice and friendly person, who cares for others. Klein is also occasionally very emotional, especially when someone calls him by his real name. He is incredibly annoyed by people calling him by his username, BallsDeep69, or any variation of it, as that was intended to be a joke name for a practice character and would much rather people call him Klein. He cares a lot about Kirito, wanting him to grow into a good person.

That being said, he has shown to have a limit to his niceness. Case in point, whenever Kirito was being an asshole, he’d call him out on it, or he’d occasionally comment on a stupid situation. It was also implied that he has a dark sense of humor somewhere in his subconscious, as he once joked about Kirito’s friends dying again, but he immediately apologized once he realized what he said.

Differences from the Original

Considering the other characters in the abridged series, Klein is rather similar to his original counterpart, although the abridged Klein is more emotional. Also, most of Klein’s perverted tendencies in the original have been removed.

In the original series his real name was “Ryotaro Tsuboi” while his avatar is named “Klein”, as he never made a “joke” character with an embarrassing name. But in the Abridged Series his avatar’s name is “BallDeep69” and “Klein” is apparently his real name.

Voice Actor

In the Japanese Dub Klein is voiced by Hiroaki Hirata.
In the English Dub Klein is voiced by Kirk Thornton.
In the Abridged Series Klein was voiced by Cheesemanjoe before being replaced by Dizzasta.

Sightings

Trivia

According to Reki Kawahara, Klein was named after the Klein bottle, while “Tsuboi” comes from the Japanese for it (クラインの壺, Kurain no Tsubo).[1]
In episode 2, when the Monument of Life is shown, the name “Klein” can be seen. This inadvertently implies that, even if Klein could logout, he wouldn’t be able to get the name he wanted.[2]
According to Dizzasta, Klein’s last lines in the Aincrad Arc were him quoting Watto from The Phantom Menace. If you listen closely, the words Klein says are “No pod is worth two slaves. I’m a Toydarian. Jedi mind tricks don’t work on me. Only money.”[3]
