Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev clashed at the tournament in Monte Carlo: Zverev was unable to serve out here several times and then criticized Medvedev’s antics – removing the single supports, unfair breaks. But also made it clear that he should not be distracted by such things . /

“In my opinion, the exchange of blows wasn’t that big,” brother Mischa Zverev looked back at the dispute between the two in an interview with Eurosport . “Previously with John McEnroe and Jimmy Connors, you wouldn’t have reacted to that at all. Nowadays, when everyone has to be smooth and nobody says what they think, it’s different. But for me it wasn’t a volcano or anything.”

The problem is that the rules offer many gray areas. There it is not specified that the net posts should not be removed gently and friendly. “Nobody had come up with the idea before. It’s not aggression either, it’s more of a diversionary maneuver – of course with the idea of disrupting the opponent or amusing the audience, and thus creating an atmosphere to turn the momentum. And That just worked. Of course, Sascha also says that he shouldn’t let that distract him.” Especially since, it also has to be said, Medvedev had carried out this action after his own double mistakes before Zverev had messed up his own service game to win the set.

Zverev: “These things are children’s stuff for me”

Mischa Zverev doesn’t like antics like tying shoes, getting a towel or raising your hand to break the opponent’s rhythm anyway. “These things are childish for me.”

Of course it’s fun for the audience. But: “These are things that I don’t pay attention to and that I don’t do. Sascha is very similar there. He wants to play tennis and win with tennis.”

Social media is also a problem. They are “structured in such a way that you prefer to look at things that cause stress than nice and beautiful things that of course also have their place there. But that’s how we humans are, that’s psychology.”
