Adidas Skateboarding: Classic Company, Exceptional Talent
Adi and Rudi Dassler started making athletic shoes in the 1920s. Rudolf and Adi had some differences, though, leading Rudi to actually drop out the company to create his own. (You may have heard of it, by the way – does “Puma” ring a bell?) In typical German fashion, the company name comes from two names which were combined to make a new one: Adi + Dassler = Adidas. After becoming the largest sportswear company in the world and taking part in practically every sports competition known to man, the Olympics and doing collabs with countless artists and musicians, Adidas eventually stuck their feelers out to find out what kind of new things the kids were going crazy about these days. That’s how Adidas Skateboarding was created.
Adidas Hits the Skate Scene
Adidas Skateboarding has been making super-stylish skate shoes since 2006. Skateboarding legend Mark “The Gonz” Gonzales was the official poster boy for the company since 1998. He can easily be counted as one of the most influential skaters of the 80s and could be considered one of the founders of modern street skating. Gonzales also has his own deck company, Krooked Skateboards, which often does collabs with Adidas.
More Than Gonz: The Adidas Skateboarding Team
Adidas Skateboarding isn’t just The Gonz. Pro skaters like Silas Baxter-Neal, Dennis Buesnitz and Lucas Puig all have their own signature models with Adidas. They’re the most famous members and core of the team. Other riders include Rodrigo TX, Daewon Song, Marc Johnson, Pete Eldridge, Lem Villemin, Nestor Judkins, Jake Donnelly, Mark Suciu, Miles Silvas, Alec Majerus, Benny Fairfax and many more.
Adidas Meets Skateboarding
Adidas skate shoes are designed to be perfect for skateboarding! They’re often based on famous silhouettes from sports like soccer, running or tennis. Busenitz, Campus, Ronan, Adi Ease: the design department knows a thing or two about durable materials, flexible sole constructions and how to create a best-selling shoe model!
