Pharrell and adidas Originals Revisit the Superstar With New Patchwork Mesh Styles
Pharrell and adidas boast one of the most expansive artist/brand partnerships in footwear history, and it’s now coming full circle with a new Superstar collaboration. Although Skateboard P and the Three Stripes have been working together for over half a decade — creating everything from the NMD Hu to Tennis Hu and much more along the way — the two’s first effort was a 50-shoe Superstar “Supercolor” collection, making Williams’ newest Superstars both a fresh chapter in the partnership and a nod to its genesis.
Giving off a patchwork-style vibe with its multi-piece, multi-color knit upper, Pharrell’s latest arrives in both “Core Black/Tech Purple” and “Cloud White/Bold Gold” colorways. Each offers a base hue and contrasting heel piece inspired by the Superstar’s famous black/white and black/white colorways, then dashes down a divergent path of patchwork palettes and textures.
“Core Black/Tech Purple” overlays a rich burgundy strip on its lateral side, then embellishes the medial half with purple, teal and grey swatches. Meanwhile, “Cloud White/Bold Gold” opts for yellow on the lateral side while equipping volt, seafoam green and black on the medial half. Each tongue is done up in grey with a backwards adidas hit, and P’s signature “Human Race” motif is scrawled across the heels. Small adidas Originals fabric tags are pinned to the medial side, insoles boast a recognizable anatomy graphic, and flecked laces tie everything together. Traditional rubber midsoles and outsoles complete each look.
The Pharrell x adidas Superstar collection will release on the adidas webstore July 3, with each pair priced at $140 USD.
Pharrell’s good friend, musical cohort and adidas “teammate” Kanye West is having a big week as well, announcing a 10-year partnership with Gap and teasing a KIDS SEE GHOSTS animated show directed by Takashi Murakami.
