Rafael Nadal may already have played his last Wimbledon if Alexander Zverev comments true | Tennis | Sport | Express.co.uk

Rafael Nadal has sparked more concerns over his physical state after pulling out of next week’s Barcelona Open. The Spaniard has made it no secret that he wants to be “competitive” at the French Open but is running out of time to get some matches before the clay-court Major. And one of Alexander Zverev ’s recent comments has re-emerged, hinting that Nadal may have already played at Wimbledon for the last time.

Nadal has not played a match since January, when he got injured during his Australian Open second-round defeat to Mackenzie McDonald. The 36-year-old has continued to hint at a comeback on clay after returning to practice more than a month ago.

But his return continues to be delayed, as the world No 15 pulled out of the Monte Carlo Masters before withdrawing from next week’s Barcelona Open. It means there are now just two tournaments before the French Open begins – the Masters in Madrid and Rome.

With Nadal’s body continuing to cause problems, there are concerns over whether he can return to his top level or if he will keep being set back physically. And it means that a prediction from Zverev could come true, as the German previously claimed that the 14-time French Open champion would retire at Roland Garros this year.
