Reddit – Dive into anything

I own an OG Homepod. In between, I also had a stereo pair, but I didn’t have an Apple TV at the time, so I sold one again (my living room was also a bit smaller back then btw). I love the first HomePod for the deep bass and volume.

Now the new HomePod 2 was presented and I have ordered this time directly two, which should replace my OG Homepod. So far, I’m kind of disappointed – the bass is significantly less voluminous than an OG Homepod. The mids / highs sound a bit clearer, but I still kind of expected more. I have no idea if my memory is deceiving me, but the the OG stereo pair sounded noticeably bigger and were more fun to listen to.

For comparison, I was still able to test a Bouse Soundbar 300. The HomePods sounded more spacious, but even the soundbar had deeper bass. That was not the case with the OG HomePod.

I’ll probably send them back, because 700 euros is still a lot of money for that I’m not really convinced. Does anyone feel the same way? Did I just have too high expectations or is the new HomePod really – at least in terms of bass – a step back?
