Reddit – Dive into anything

I had a great year in 2020 and decided to splurge on two high-end peacoats. After wearing them both throughout the winter, here are my thoughts on each one. I should also add that I wore these coats in North Georgia this year. It gets cold up there, some snow, but obviously the temperature doesn’t get as low as some other regions.

Burberry Wool Blend Pea Coat

Have to say, this coat is phenomenal. I got it in Navy Blue. It’s stunning. I get compliments on it quite a bit, and even had a few guys ask me, “Hey man, what do you do for work?” It’s the kind of garment that makes you look wealthy. Burberry tailored the coat to my specifications, which was included in the price. Honestly, I really love this coat a lot, so much that it might have replaced my custom Canali suits as the favorite garment in my closet.

Gloverall Churchill Peacoat

Great coat. I got it in black. It’s 100% wool, which makes it slightly warmer and heavier than the Burberry, so it might be a better choice if you live in a colder climate. It also has the traditional Peacoat sideways pockets in the middle part of the part of the coat, which are more comfortable than the pockets on the Burberry. I think Burberry made an aesthetic choice not to include these in their design, while Gloverall just kept its design traditional. Another consideration: Both Gloverall and Burberry and British companies, however Burberry sources the fabrics from Italy for its peacoat, while the Gloverall coat is made from 100% British wool. This is meaningless to me, but if you’re an Anglo-file, you might find that fact interesting.

All-in-all, both really great coats, both British brands, so you feel like you’re wearing an “authentic” peacoat. If I had to choose just one, I would take the Burberry. That said, though it is nicer, is it worth the price tag of more than twice that of the Gloverall? That decision is up to the individual. I’m glad to have both.

Edit: About the sizings. I’m just a shade under 6ft, 175-178lbs. I got the Burberry coat in size 42 with some tailoring to make it slimmer in the torso. Fits like an absolute dream. The Gloverall I got in size Medium, also got it tailored a bit to take it. Fits perfectly.
