I have 100ml bottles of both Bleu de Chanel EDP and Parfum so thought I would give my thoughts in case anyone is interested and would welcome any comments or other opinions.

EDP

A smooth grapefruit opening which is fresh but with a nice depth to it. It has some of the zingy out of the shower freshness of the EDT but it is much smoother and well rounded. For this reason this scent is very versatile and could be used daytime or nighttime, and in both casual and formal situations.

The sillage of the EDP is very potent. A few sprays and you will have a strong scent bubble around you so it’s best to be careful with how many sprays you use. Longevity is pretty good.

I wear this when I just want to smell good and not take a risk- for example on a first date. I had one girl text me the next day saying I smelt amazing and asking what it was. I’ve received a few other compliments on this so it’s definitely a pleasing scent to most people. I guess the downside is it isn’t that interesting and a lot of people might recognise it due to the popularity of the EDT.

Parfum

Spraying the EDP and Parfum on each hand, the difference for the first 10 mins or so is negligible. However after a while the differences start to emerge. The “blue” aquatic freshness of the EDP is gone, and instead a deep, darker lavender emanates from the Parfum. It has added sandalwood which makes it more woody. I prefer the scent to the EDP- it is denser, less generic and smells more sophisticated. I would say this is best used in the evening. The projection is not as good as the EDP- it is more subtle which is not a bad thing but may garner less complements as a result. Longevity is similar but for the price it could be a lot better, considering it is not far off the costs of some Creed and Parfums de Marly fragrances.

Overall I prefer the scent of Parfum and find it to be more interesting than the EDP, but performance and versatility of the EDP is slightly better. It is unnecessary to have both like I do unless you love the Bleu de Chanel scent DNA and want it to be your signature. I’ll probably use the EDP for daytime use and the Parfum for evenings.

Does anyone else have experience with either or both? Which do you prefer?
