Revelations: MasterChef: The Professionals’ Alexander Webb

We caught up with Alexander Webb, head chef at Square 1 in Great Dunmow, Essex, ahead of his appearance on MasterChef: The Professionals.

What was your best subject at school?

It would have to be cooking

What was your first job?

In the restaurant where I am now head chef – I started as a pot wash

What do you normally have for breakfast?

If I am working, a double espresso

What do you do to relax?

I like to play Fifa with my friends online

What’s your favourite hotel?

It has to be the London Edition hotel

What is your favourite drink?

Espresso martini

What is your favourite food/cuisine?

I love Asian food and particularly sushi

What do you always carry with you?

I always bring my notebook with me, so if any good ideas or dishes come to mind I can write them down

Jamie Oliver

Which person gave you the greatest inspiration?

Steve Groves was a great help to me

Cast away on a desert island, what luxury would you take?

Maybe salt, or an iPhone

If you had not gone into catering, where do you think you would be now?

A footballer or a gardener

When and where was your last holiday?

In Norfolk, I love it there

When did you last eat a hamburger?

I can’t remember when, but I do know it was at Five Guys – they are so good

What’s your favourite film?

Notting Hill is great. I know it’s a TV show, but I also love Stranger Things on Netflix
