Review + swatches – Burberry Full Kisses lipstick in Light Crimson, Coral Red, Nude, and Military Red
Burberry makes some of my favourite lipsticks; their Kisses formula is a pigmented, yet still ultra comfortable lipstick that’s great for every day wear. Recently Burberry launched the Full Kisses line, which is a creamy full coverage lipstick. I received four shades to try:
- Light Crimson No. 517 – bright coral pink
- Coral Red No. 525 – a bright orangey red
- Nude No. 505 – light brown
- Military Red No. 553 – true blue-based red
The texture of these lipsticks is very creamy, with a lot of slip, and feels very comfortable on the lips. Pigmentation is great, being semi-opaque in one swipe, and achieving full opacity in multiple swipes. It doesn’t feel heavy at all, despite the full pigmentation, and it doesn’t settle into fine lines. Wear time is great – I get a 4-5 hours of wear with the Full Kisses formula, which is shortened if I eat or drink too much.
The bullet is different from other lipsticks on the market, having a very flat top allows the user to draw very precise lines to create a perfectly sculpted pout. The only other lipstick I’ve seen like this on the market is Charlotte Tilbury’s Matte Revolution line, which also has a flat tip at the top of the bullet.
Now despite all the awesome things about this lipstick, I need to explain why I actually really dislike it – the lipstick design is just not practical. I love the flat top which makes precise application a breeze, which is super important in a full coverage lipstick like this. However, that top of the lipstick does not screw down, which means I have to be extra careful when removing and replacing the lipstick cap because the inside of the cap will graze the side of the lipstick. This makes on-to-go application nearly impossible.
When compared to the original Kisses formula, Full Kisses is a lot creamier, with more slip. The original Kisses is definitely more gel-like. Despite this difference, I actually find them to apply and wear very similarly in terms of wear time, pigmentation, and feel on the lips, with maybe Full Kisses being a tinge heavier than the original Kisses.
All in all, the inconvenience of that bullet tip is enough to offset everything else that’s great about these lipsticks. The original Kisses formula comes quite close to the experience you’d get with Full Kisses, so I would recommend those instead. The original Kisses lipstick also comes in a wider number of colours. With all the other awesome lipstick formulas on the market (see Bite Amuse Bouche), it would be tough to recommend Burberry Full Kisses.
