Price: ~£15.47

Volume: 60ml

Made in: South Korea

What is it?: A serum meant to calm the skin (soothe inflammation) and strengthen the skin’s barrier, containing 49% Centella Asiatica Extract.

Brand Description: A product meant to be used for instance if you have been using too many products and you want to give your face a break. A serum like this contains many skin beneficial ingredients which means you don’t need to use so many products in your routine.

Supposedly Good for: Sensitive, inflamed skins (oily or dry)

What I think: I agree that this can be used by both oily and dry skins. Of course this isn’t a fatty/ceramide or oily serum, so oily and combo skins may enjoy it more than dry skins.

Winter or Summer use?: I think that this would be more suitable for use in the Winter than the Hot summer months

Packaging: Plastic Pump bottle – The pump is perfect in terms of how heavy it expels the product. It’s not too much or too little.

Directions: Apply after cleansing and toning. Pat until fully absorbed and follow up with a moisturiser.

How I use it: I use this in the PM as a serum after a toner. It’s not the most elegant in terms of its texture (not the smoothest finish), so I much prefer using this in the PM and not under SPF or makeup. I’ve actually even used this as a PM toner as this isn’t so thick that I can’t use it like a toner. I simply pump into a cotton pad and swipe the face. I actually find that this requires a few pumps 1-3 pumps to cover both the face and the neck.

Adenosine – skin brightening. Niacinamide – also skin brightening and barrier reinforcing as well as providing pore care. Arginine – soothing. Green tea extract – soothing. I really like the addition of peptides to help with collagen / skin-elasticity + firmness. I also like the addition of so many soothing ingredients and also skin brightening ingredients.

Texture: This is thicker than the Isntree Bifida Ampoule and thinner than the Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Toner Plus. I would say this is also slightly weightier than the Klairs Supply Preparation toner.

This doesn’t simply disappear into the skin once applying. It takes its time to fully soak down and absorb, but once it does – I don’t feel it anymore on the skin. It seems to layer just fine under and on top of other skincare products.

I don’t find this sticky or tacky either – you may do initially, but once the product has absorbed / dried down, it’s absolutely fine. It’s not my favourite to wear under makeup, but that is just my personal preference – I have a different routine for makeup use.

Very easy to spread and a gel-like texture.

You can see this provides a shinier finish. But give this serum more time and it does simply disappear into the skin.

Fragrance?: No added fragrance or essential oils – I don’t get any scent from this.

Good Under Makeup?: Depends how much of this you apply. Should be fine if you apply a little and apply foundation. I personally don’t really wear this under makeup (it’s got a tiny tiny bit of a tacky feeling to it on the skin).

How long have I been using this?: 2 Months

The Effect?: Did this greatly change my skin? No. Did it help maintain the condition of my skin and reduce any irritation? Yes!

What I like:

  • Easy to spread
  • Easy to absorb
  • Not sticky or tacky
  • Light texture
  • Didn’t irritate my skin or make it worse
  • Fragrance free / EO free
  • I like the addition of Peptides + Niacinamide
  • Relatively Hydrating (it does tend to simply sink into the skin instead of soaking the skin and also sitting on top)

What I don’t like:

  • Not as hydrating as I would want it to be (wish it had >1 HA molecule).
  • Can be considered a thick serum (I would prefer extremely watery and lightweight – also because then I don’t have to worry about makeup layering or feeling hot + humid).
  • If too much is added, it can end up balling up under silicone-heavy products (hence why I use in the PM).

Overall Rating and Conclusion: 4/5 I definitely prefer this over the Unscented Centella Toner (review HERE), as I really like the ingredient selection, I like that this contains a cocktail of skin beneficial ingredients like Niacinamide and peptides. It does contain only 1 form of HA and I wish they added 1 more or even 2 more types, as I don’t find this the most hydrating serum. But I don’t really think this is meant to be a really hydrating serum, its main focus is to reduce inflammation and sensitivity of the skin. So as a product to help repair the skin’s barrier, I think this is great – it reminds me of the Isntree Bifida Ampoule in terms of trying to protect the skin’s barrier.

I think perhaps people who say this didn’t do much for their skin don’t realyse that this isn’t meant to change the skin, only protect and soothe it, and I think this serum does that just fine. I don’t think the texture of it is very elegant (hence why I don’t wear it under makeup or in the AM), but for the price I think it does do what it’s supposed to do.

Would I repurchase?: I think I would – as I could use this as a repairing serum for when my skin feels irritated or overwhelmed. I don’t think I would incorporate this into my routine as much as I did for reviewing purposes, and would simply have it on the backburner as a good soothing serum.

Dupe?: I think this is a dupe for the Wishful Skin Thirst Trap Serum, and I think this is similar to the Isntree Bifida Ampoule.

My Skin Type: I am acne prone and have slightly dehydrated combo skin. My skin is usually tight where the cheeks and eye area is and the outer parts of my face. My T zone is oily. My skin isn’t a fan of thick/heavy formulas so I opt for lightweight formulas to prevent it from clogging up. My skin doesn’t like essential oils either and I try to avoid fragrance when I can.
