1/18 scale is one of the most popular scales among model car collectors and hobbyists. Cars in this scale are large enough to show full intricate detail, but not so big that they’ll be cumbersome or take up too much space in display cabinets.

Resin and diecast model cars in 1/18 scale are approximately 28cm long by 13cm wide. However, 1/18 scale means the models are about 1/18th the size of the real vehicle, so model size will differ depending on what vehicle is being represented.

1/18 scale diecast models came into their own through the 1980s with the ascendance of brands like Bburago and Maisto. While both brands still manufacture diecast models (Maisto acquired the Bburago brand in 2006), they are generally considered entry-level models, although some early models, particularly the Bburago Ferraris, are valuable to collectors.

The popularity and success of these early model brands paved the way for the emergence of more premium, high-end model brands like MR Collection Models, LookSmart Models, BBR Models and AUTOart diecast cars.
