The Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Ampoule is a power-packed, serum like product that helps to hydrate and soothe the skin while providing antioxidant protection and skin barrier repairing benefits. It’s a multi-tasking product that can treat a variety of skin concerns and is suitable for all skin types, but is especially beneficial for sensitive and reactive skin.
What Is An Ampoule?
An Ampoule is essentially a very concentrated, supercharged serum with higher amounts of active ingredients. The difference between ampoules and essences/serum it that an ampoule contains more concentrated actives than serum or essence. This means that an ampoule can provide very specific targeted treatments.
Ampoule’s still tend to be similar in texture to serum and essences and most come in small dropper bottles or may even be individually packaged in single application packets.
What Is Centella Asiatica?
Centella Asiatica (also known as Gotu Kola) is an herb that has been used for thousands of years as a natural ingredient to help heal wounds and reduce inflammation. So what does centella do for the skin? Well a lot, actually!
Centella, or Cica, has 4 main components: asiaticoside, madecassoside, asiatic and madecassic acid that give Centella most of its incredible benefits, but it also has lots of other awesome components like amino acids, flavinoids and other nutrients.
- Madecassoside – mainly helps with brightness and can fade hyperpigmentation, acne scars and sun spots
- Madecassic acid – is responsible for all the soothing benefits in Cica. It’s the one that helps the most with irritation, sensitivity and redness
- Asiaticoside – provides most of the antioxidant protection to prevent skin and cell damage from UV rays and other environmental factors
- Asiatic acid – responsible for promoting wound healing and stimulating the production of hyaluronic acid and collagen in the skin
Centella can help to stimulate hyaluronic acid production in our skin which helps to increase hydration in the skin. It can also help to speed up wound healing and promote tissue repair.
It also has lots of antioxidant properties, mostly in thanks to madecassoside. Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, centella is a great ingredient for sensitive skin and can help to reduce redness, calm inflammation, and soothe skin conditions like eczema.
It’s also been show to help stimulate collagen production to help prevent premature aging.

Skin 1004 Madagascar Centella 100 Ampoule Review
Overall Thoughts
I picked up this product several months ago when I was looking for something soothing with minimal ingredients. This one checked all the boxes! Since it only has one ingredient and my skin loves Cica, I knew it would be a great one to try.
Overall, I absolutely love this product and it’s always my go-to when my skin is feeling sensitive. It immediately helps to soothe my skin and reduce redness.
Although it’s not strong enough on its own to keep my skin hydrated, it’s incredible paired with my other toners and serums.
Price
This ampoule retails for about $18 on Amazon, but you can get it a little cheaper at other Korean beauty retailers.
Packaging
This product comes in a thick, 100ml glass bottle that feels expensive and sturdy. It has a dropper lid that’s L-shaped, which makes it easier to apply since this ampoule is so watery.
The packaging is very minimal, but it looks really pretty and expensive.
Texture
The texture of the ampoule is very thin – it’s almost like water, so it can be a little messy if you aren’t careful! But because it’s so light, it sinks in right away and doesn’t leave any greasy, tacky or heavy feeling on the skin.
The lightweight texture is perfect for those with oily and combination skin types, but it can also be a great product for those with drier skin as well.
It has a really nice slip and glides across the skin, so you don’t have to worry about pulling or tugging on the skin.
Scent
The Skin 1004 Centella Ampoule is fragrance-free and does not have any kind of noticeable scent.
Formula
Since this product just has one ingredient, it’s perfect for sensitive, reactive and acne-prone skin types. With just one ingredient there less risk of a reaction or breakout.
Performance
The Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Asiatica Ampoule is one of my favorite products to use when my skin is feeling extra sensitive or irritated. I especially like to use it when I use tretinoin or other exfoliants a little too much and get some irritation.
I use this morning and night, typically right after cleansing because the consistency is so thin. It sinks right in and layers well with other serums and products on top.
I do find this product is only very lightly hydrating – it does not immediately plump my skin like other hydrating serums do, but I do think it helps to keep my skin hydrated when paired with other products. I think this would be perfect for those with oily and combo skin types, but it’s just not enough for my drier skin.
It does, however, immediately make my skin feel smoother and softer as well as look brighter and healthier.
Immediately after applying this product, my skin looks matte, so it doesn’t really have a finish or give a nice glow to the skin like some other serums do.
I find that it really helps to minimize any irritations and can see a difference in my skin within just one use. Usually this can help clear anything up in just a few days and my skin is back to normal!
I’ve also used it on breakouts or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and found that it really did help to speed up the healing time and get my skin back to normal quicker.
Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Ampoule Pros
- Instantly soothes skin
- Calms redness
- Provides antioxidant protection against environmental damage
- Promotes wound healing and tissue repair
- Only 1 ingredient
Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Ampoule Cons
- May not be hydrating enough for drier skin types
How I Use
I typically use this product 2x a day immediately after cleansing and then follow with the rest of my serums, toners, moisturizers, etc.
I don’t use this product daily, but only when my skin is feeling sensitive or I’m having a dermatitis flare up.
I also love to use this as a quick mask when I have a flare up or an extra irritated area of skin. What I do is take a cotton pad and saturate the cotton pad with the ampoule, then just apply the cotton pad to my skin and leave on for 5-10 minutes. It really helps to reduce redness and immediately calms down my skin!
I’ve also put this product in the fridge and it feels extra soothing when it’s cold!
Is Madagascar Centella Ampoule Good?
Yes, the Skin 1004 Centella Ampoule is a great product, especially for those with sensitive or oily skin types. However, it is suitable for all skin types and can help with a variety of skin concerns because of the multi-tasking ingredient Centella Asiatica.
Can I use Madagascar Centella ampoule everyday?
Absolutely! The Centella Ampoule can be used 2x day, everyday. It’s great on its own or paired with other serums to get even more benefits out of your skincare routine.
How do you use Madagascar Centella ampoule?
You can use this product just like you would any other serum, simply squeeze a few drops into the palm of your hand and use your finger tips to apply and then gently massage into the skin.
Since this product is so thin you can also apply multiple layers of this serum to get added benefit and hydration.
The product glides across the skin really easily, so you only need a few drops for each use.
