The Chanel Cruise Show Took Us on a Train Ride Into the Future of the Label

Virginie Viard, Chanel’s new creative director, invited attendees into a glamorous French train station for the Chanel Cruise show, and it was a fitting setting for a show that took us on a journey into the future, giving us our first real glimpse at what Chanel will be like without Karl Lagerfeld. Following the designer’s death in February of this year, Viard took the helm at the fashion house, having worked under Lagerfeld for many years. After March’s ready-to-wear show (which may have been presented posthumously but still contained plenty of Karl’s input), the Cruise 2020 collection marks Viard’s first solo collection (though apparently Karl had a hand in the setting). It did what it needed to, fusing Chanel hallmarks with retro throwbacks and modern ideas, continuing to take the label into the future. Take a look at all the key moments ahead.
