The Ritz is my home: Which famous person said this? – The Hotel Trotter

A longstanding bond unites the Ritz Paris and Gabrielle Chanel.

“The Ritz is my home,” Chanel was fond of saying. Mademoiselle practically lived there for 34 years. Suite No.302 of the Ritz Paris remained her home until her death in 1971. Although she had a luxurious apartment above her shop across the street, still there at 31 rue Cambon, she moved to the Ritz in 1937, gradually incorporating her furniture, her Cocteau sketches and beloved Coromandel screens. It also believed that she felt so much at home that she used to enter the hotel through the staff entrance. It is not difficult to understand why. She was a woman who loved authentic elegance and the Ritz Paris rose to her standards.

After its four-year renovation, the Ritz Paris reopened including suites that paid homage to legendary fans of the hotel. The Coco Chanel Suite is located on the hotel’s second floor and features two immense rooms and an adjoining living room with floor to ceiling windows, overlooking Place Vendôme and its trademark column that has inspired the shape of Chanel No 5 perfume.

During the renovation, Karl Lagerfeld, the artistic director of Chanel House, collaborated with the hotel designing team in order to contribute to the creation of this small Chanel Universe. The suite has remained faithful to Coco Chanel’s favourite themes, with Asian lacquer, gilded mirrors and a decided taste for black and white. There are also sketches by Karl Lagerfeld in the entrance and throughout the suite are never-seen-before archive photos of Chanel during her time at the iconic hotel.

Like the iconic designer who decorated her suite herself in her day and whose vision of French chic has spanned decades and cultures, this suite is for aesthetes and lovers of an elegant, sober and discreet contemporary décor.
