Thermowood – Premium Surface Finishing from Lunawood
Now you can enhance the aesthetics of a Lunawood Thermowood with structured surfaces. Alongside Lunawood’s traditional smooth-surfaced and planed products, the fine sawn, fine roughened and brushed surfaces add the options of a more natural and vibrant feel for Lunawood Thermowood profiles.
Various surface treatments ease maintenance while also simplifying and speeding up work on the construction site. Lunawood’s factory-ready treatments are Luna Pre-Greyed treatment, Luna Pro coating and Factory-oiling.
Structured Surface Options:
BRUSHED SURFACE
An accurate, high-quality brushing process highlights the natural structure of wood. This adds more texture to the surface of the Lunawood Thermowood profiles. The brushed surface keeps the grain of the wood clearly visible and yields a more rustic outcome.

FINE SAWN SURFACE
If off sawn timber needs to be cut again, we will typically use a much smaller saw. This second cut using a fine saw gives a much smoother finish to the wood. Timber that has been cut a second time is called “fine sawn.” The fine sawn finishing is the perfect choice for a subtle end-result and it is a great option to planed surface with the same dimensional accuracy. The fine sawn surface can be applied to several Lunawood Thermowood profiles and thus it is suitable for both outdoor and indoor use.
FINE ROUGHENED SURFACE
Fine Roughened surface provides a rugged and more natural feeling. The touch experience and visuality are something between that of fine sawn and planed surfaces.

Factory-Treated Coating Options:
PRE-GREYED
The non-toxic Luna Pre-Greyed treatment offers a high-quality pre-aged appearance for exterior applications.
Lunawood Pre-Greyed provides a premium and completely natural finish. Both Lunawood Thermowood and the treatment are non-toxic. The coating consists only of natural ingredients: silicates, mineral pigments and lignin. The Pre-Greyed surface will make way to the wood’s own naturally weathered grey color after several years*. In order to have the most appealing and robust pre-aged appearance, we recommend a brushed surface. The surface treatment does not provide any protection to the wood.

LUNA PRO COATED BRUSHED BLACK
The Luna Pro Coated Black 0202 is treated on the brushed Thermowood Profile with the waterborne Tikkurila Ultra Pro topcoat to give an intense coverage. Tikkurila Ultra Pro is developed to withstand demanding weather conditions. As a result, the product is an excellent choice for exterior use. Ultra Pro creates a flexible, fast-drying film on the surface of the wood, offering excellent protection against water penetration. The flexible film adapts to changing weather conditions, allowing wood to breathe year-round.
- The durability of Ultra Pro has been tested in accordance with standard EN 927-5.

LUNA PRO COATED LIGHT BROWN
Luna Pro Coated products, available in three distinct colors that perfectly suit traditional and modern wood constructions, are installation-ready, factory‑treated products with long maintenance intervals and solid resistance against moisture, sunlight, dirt, and cracking.
Luna Pro Coated Light Brown 318R is semi-transparent brown wood stain that offers long maintenance intervals and an effective weather resistance. Luna Pro Coated Light Brown 318R is a treatment with the waterborne Tikkurila Pinja Color Plus wood stain that highlights the wood’s beautiful grains. The stain creates a satin-smooth surface and protects the wood effectively against moisture, sunlight and cracking. The stain utilizes unique Super Color pigment technology, which creates natural brown shades that are perfect for thermally-modified wood.

- Gloss level: Semi-matt (4/RT-standard)

FACTORY-OILED
Lunawood’s decking products are also available as factory oiled. Two coats of pigmented wood oil are applied in a controlled factory environment creating an even coating and consistent color tone. The product is ready to be installed and does not require immediate coating to secure the color preservation. Lunawood’s factory oiled decking boards have been treated with AkzoNobel terrace oil.
