When it comes to matters of sustainability, what comes to mind are the long-term effects of big industries, like automobiles or construction. But given that the planet is at a critical stage, where every bit counts, smaller industries collectively can make a great impact and bring about a positive change in society.
No effort is small today. It can be the fashion world using sustainable fabrics, a farmer relying on natural fertilizers, or a person choosing to walk over taking a taxi. Keeping up with the times and to contribute to the sustainable movement, Titan, one of India’s most respected watch companies, has launched a watch collection under brand Anne Klein that solely relies upon sustainable and ‘considered’ materials.

Introducing AK Considered
Anne Klein’s new range ‘Anne Klein Considered’ launched by Titan Company Ltd. in India, has taken a bold step in not only launching watches that are beautifully crafted, but also considers its wider impact on the environment. Using sustainable materials, the collection is nothing short of a revolution in the country’s watch industry. Here are some of the eco-friendly features that set it apart from everything else available in the market.
Responsibly sourced leathers
Now, it’s possible to get the elegant look of leather without any guilt that comes with it. The leather straps used in the AK Considered collection are animal-free and vegan. They are cruelty-free and have been responsibly engineered with organic materials that would usually go to waste, like apple peels, pineapple and cork, thereby also reducing the load on landfills and contribution towards pollution – talk about two birds and a stone!
Power of the Solar
We all know how precious our Sun is, giving life to everything on the planet. The Anne Klein Considered collection draws on this special reservoir of solar energy that is easily available to us. The watches are powered by solar battery, which means they are completely rechargeable and don’t need replacement every few years. So, go ahead, flaunt it on your wrist, with the confidence that comes when you know you won’t be contributing to the growing piles of e-waste in our cities.
Renewable plastic
Plastics today have choked our seas and oceans, which can be easily seen at beaches where the sea returns our ‘gift’ in huge piles. To do its bit and minimise its environmental impact, AK Considered only uses cellulose acetate for its watches. It’s a non-petroleum plastic made with natural cotton and wood fibres that can be renewed, and is non-toxic.
The launch
With great fanfare, the AK Considered collection was launched on July 28 by Dia Mirza. The Bollywood actor took to Instagram to release the responsibly-sourced range, while in conversation with the Titan Watches CEO, Suparna Mitra. “When I discovered this collection, and all that it stands for and cares about, I was extremely excited. Today is also an ideal day to launch this special collection given that it’s World Conservation Day,” Mirza said during the online event. Without compromising on the style and comfort, the timepieces are thoughtful, considerate of the environment and progressive, to say the least. As Mitra reiterates, “There is no diminishing on the look front, and it is still thoughtful about its environmental impact.” Apart from using solar-powered batteries and vegan leather, the collection uses ethically-sourced Swarovski crystals, bioplastic and renewable packaging materials for the aesthetically stunning collection of 11 watches. “The age of responsible fashion is here to stay,” concludes Mirza. “And it will take all of us to celebrate this as well as encourage the brands that make this imp choice.”
