This is a wonderful vintage trench coat made in England by Burberry Prorsum.. The classic vintage Burberry trench is considered the ultimate in trenchcoats. The coat has all of the details associated with a good trenchcoat – raglan sleeves, shoulder epaulettes, rainguard across the back and at the right side, button-down slant pocket at either side, belts at the cuffs and waist with leather buckles, metal D rings on the waist belt, kick pleat at the back, double breasted style that buttons either to the left or right, and collar that can be worn either tight to the neck or open. The coat is lined in Burberry’s classic Nova check pattern and there is a button-in separate wool lining for extra warmth.
Age: 1980s
Label: Burberrys Prorsum Made in England
Color: Light Beige/tan
Material: The Burberry shell is 51% Cotton and 49% Polyester, while its lining is 50% Cotton and 50% Polyester. The removable lining is 95% Wool and 5% Cashmere.
Sizing: There is a size written underneath the Burberry label that reads “56 Long”, but this is an older British equivalent (now a European equivalent) to a US 46 long) I was informed by someone who has a size 56 Burberry that this one fits more of a 54 / 52 long.
That being said please rely on the following measurements for fit, taking the thickness of the fabric and the style of the garment into account:
Shoulders: 20” across to the end edge of either epaulette or from sleeve seam to seam
Sleeves: 26” long from shoulder epaulette
Sleeve Inseam: 18”
Chest: 50” around, taken under the arms
Waist: 50” around uncinched – meant to be cinched with belt
Hips: 52”
Length: 48”
It’s in excellent condition except for a pinhole, caused by wearing a pin, on the underside the right lapel flap. This will never be visible because it is under the flap and when the flap is closed to the neck, for a men’s closure, it is covered by the other lapel flap. In any case, it is very tiny, and quite negligible. There is also just the slightest bit of wear to the leather on the buckles, but this mentioned only in the interest of full disclosure, as again, it is negligible. Otherwise, this coat looks to have seen very little use and was well cared for and stored over the years.
This is classic Burberry…..always in style…..great vintage piece in wonderful condition – perfect for fall wear with the wool liner.
