Watch Vikings Star Surprise Fans Raving About The Show In A Restaurant

While dining in a restaurant in Atlanta, Vikings star Alexander Ludwig surprised fans sitting nearby who were raving about the show. Ludwig played Bjorn Ironside, the son of Ragnar Lothbrok and Lagertha, on Vikings, which concluded after a six-season run. Ludwig has also starred in The Hunger Games and Bad Boys for Life.

Vikings premiered on the History Channel in March 2013, and Amazon Prime Video released the final 10 episodes of season 6 on December 30, 2020. In 2019, ahead of the final season premiere, it was announced creator Michael Hirst is developing a sequel series for Netflix called Vikings: Valhalla. Co-created by Jeb Stuart, the spinoff will likely premiere sometime this year, barring pandemic-related production setbacks. Netflix has ordered 24 episodes of the sequel series, showing the streamer’s confidence viewers of the original show will also tune in for the spinoff.

In his Instagram post, Ludwig says he was dining with his wife when he heard two fans sitting nearby discussing Vikings. He calls listening to the fans, who were about 10 feet away, “wild.” Although Ludwig doesn’t approach the fans in the video, he describes what happened when he did later, writing, “They flipped and it was absolutely awesome.” Check out the full video below.

Ludwig will not take part in Vikings: Valhalla, which is set over 100 years after the end of the original series. Instead, he has been cast alongside Arrow star Stephen Amell in Heels, an upcoming drama about wrestling for Starz. Ludwig will play Ace Spade, who squabbles with his brother Jack (Amell) while they help run the family business. Heels is set in Georgia and films there as well, possibly explaining why Ludwig and his wife are in Atlanta.

It’s too bad Ludwig wasn’t able to tape the fans’ reaction when he approached them. If he says they “flipped,” that could have been really funny to see. It’s no wonder the fans didn’t recognize him, though—Ludwig looks completely different without the scruffy beard he sported as Bjorn on Vikings, and he was wearing a cap. His eventual interaction with the fans was likely a little different than it would have been without an ongoing pandemic. However, it must have been exciting to see their praise of Vikings captured for Ludwig’s many Instagram followers. Considering many are turning to binge watching shows even more so than usual in the past year, it makes sense the fans were excited to discuss their mutual love for the historical fantasy series, especially with such a surprising person listening nearby.
