An application of House of Quality in Soft Drink Industry An application of House of Quality in Soft Drink Industry

Temponia, Yenb and Tiaob (1999) stated that House of Quality (HOQ) is one of the matrices of an iterative process called Quality Function Deployment (QFD). The foundation of the HOQ is the belief that products should be designed to reflect customers’ desires and tastes. This research aims at achieving satisfying soft drinkers of Smack. A number of previous related studies have been studied in relation to House of Quality. This research is approached using a research framework used by Crow (2002) who applied QFD for customer-focused development in DRM Associates used QDF framework for translating customer requirements into technical requirement. Data were collected during the period of December, 2011 to January, 2012. Questionnaire was used as a material to collect data from soft drinkers who consume Smacks and technical formula experts who were experts in designing Smacks for consumers. 300 soft drinkers have been selected for filling component of customer requirement. However, 5 technical formula experts were also asked to fill technical requirement in relation to customer requirement. SPSS and Excel were used to present and analyze data. Results were put forward in figure of House of Quality. It is concluded that customer requirements of Smacks prefer taste, smell, capacity and cheap price. These customer requirements have the sweet, flavoured ingredients, volume of milliliters and cheapest raw material as technical requirement. All other competitors in Soft drink industry have these similar customer and technical requirements. Satisfaction level, interrelationships and correlation for both customer and technical requirements differ from Smack’s soft drink to other competitors’ soft drink. Technical requirement has to be improved in order to match the requirement of soft drinkers. Sweet has to be improved to higher. Smacks has to add one more flavoured ingredient. 10 milliliters of soft drink have to be further added. Smacks has to try to reduce a further 2 rupees from its going rate price. It can be concluded that requirement of soft drinkers of Smacks are translated into correct technical requirement. Therefore, Company Smacks satisfies its soft drinkers. However, technical requirements have to be improved n future. When improving these technical requirements, customers can be satisfied more in future.
