Balenciaga is a Spanish luxury fashion brand that specializes in clothes and footwear founded in 1919 by Cristóbal Balenciaga Eizaguirre† (21 January 1895 – 23 March 1972 [aged 77]). It’s chief exective officer is Cédric Charbit and it’s creative director is Demna Gvasalia. Lotta Valkova serves as it’s stylist.[1]

Balenciaga is currently owned by French company Kering.

Content

The channel uploads various videos of their fashion collections. Their videos also include their cameo in The Simpsons. However ever since the controversy, all their videos have had their comments disabled and their most recent videos have a large dislike to like ratio.

Controversy

On November 21, 2022, Shoe0nHead tweeted about Balenciaga using children in one of their Adidas x Balenciaga photoshoots. In one of these images, a court document about child exploitation material can be seen in the background. Though Balenciaga changed it afterwards, the backlash caused them to trend on Twitter and they closed down several of their social media accounts, if not completely deleting several posts. Kim Kardashian also received backlash for saying that she was unsure whether to cut ties with them and Salma Hayek received backlash when it was found her husband, François-Henri Pinault, was the CEO of Kering, Balenciaga’s parent company.[2][3][4][5][6][7]

Many celebrities condemned Balenciaga, with some such as Arie Luyendek Jr. and his wife filming themselves burning Balenciaga sneakers.[8]

A public apology was made on their Instagram account before they removed most of their posts.[9]

Partnerships

In the 19th century, when the brand was newly established, members of the Spanish royalty would wear Balenciaga clothing.[10]

Celebrities involved with Balenciaga include Kim Kardashian, Dua Lipa, Justin Bieber and Hailey Bieber.[11][12]

Kanye West was also sponsored by them, but they dropped him due to him praising Hitler on Alex Jones’ radio show while wearing a mask created by Balenciaga themselves.[13] This didn’t stop him from wearing their clothes in public, even after the aforementioned controversy.[14]
