Balenciaga Resurrects Its Speed Trainer in Mule Form
The Balenciaga Speed Trainer was Demna‘s debut hit, quickly becoming a favorite among the Kardashian-Jenners, rappers, and naturally, the streetwear community at the time. But as with most trends, the pair fell off the radar as Balenciaga welcomed dad sneakers like its Triple S, Track, Defender, Runner, and 3XL into the mix.
Now, the House has brought the divisive Speed silhouette back in mule form — just in case you thought it wasn’t quirky enough in the first place. In its usual take, the sock sneaker clings to the foot and leg with its tightly woven knitted structure, however, this has been eschewed for a look fit for rocking inside the house like a pair of slippers.
As a result, the black-and-white recycled knit mule now comes with a backless design, all while maintaining its minimalistic aesthetic. Balenciaga branding is printed on the lateral side, while further branding works the outsole and heel. The unit in question is also quintessentially Speed Trainer, featuring “No Memory” ergonomic sole technology and a lightweight construction for a feeling of being almost barefoot.
Balenciaga’s Speed Mule retails for $750 USD and can be bought online or in its boutiques worldwide now. Take a closer look at the pair above.
In related news, it seems like Balenciaga is also about to drop a 3XL Mule.
