Capitals star Alex Ovechkin, wife Nastya announce birth of second son
Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin and his wife Nastya Shubskaya Ovechkina welcomed their second child early on Wednesday morning. The couple made the announcement on Instagram, sharing a photo of them with their new son.
Translated by Instagram, Ovechkin’s post reads: “Thank you my love [Nastya] for our charming baby! I am the happiest !! I love you very much! Ilya Aleksandrovich Ovechkin, welcome to this beautiful world, our boy!”
Nastya also posted a message on Instagram: “27.05.2020 Our son was born, Ilya Aleksandrovich Ovechkin. 55 cm 3800 g! We are the happiest.”
The Capitals sent the now family of four a message of congratulations:
The parents have another son, Sergei, who was born in August of 2018. He is often seen cheering on his dad and celebrating major milestones, like No. 8’s 700th goal. Now Sergei will have a buddy to join him at the games, and someone to teach the ways of a hockey family. I imagine it’s only a matter of time before Ilya is sporting a tiny Ovi jersey and watching games.
Ovechkin has been away from game action for a while, as the season has been paused due to the coronavirus pandemic, but NHL commissioner Gary Bettman’s plan to return gave hope to the players that they will be able to continue the season soon.
