Overview: Chanel’s Joues Contraste powder blush formula (US) is highly regarded practically universally as an incredibly finely-milled, beautifully pigmented powder blush formula which is easily picked up with most brushes regardless of density and which blends like a dream on skin. I couldn’t agree more with the consensus, and as a result, Chanel Joues Contraste blush is my favourite blush formula (although I’ve never tried Tom Ford’s, which is the only powder blush formula that is sometimes said to be superior to Chanel’s).

Cost: $45 for 0.21 oz.

Below is a round up of all the shades in the permanent lineup, which includes Alezane (reviewed here), the Joues Contraste shade released most recently in Chanel’s Fall 2015 Collection: Les Automnales (swatches of all shades here).

I swatched each shade with my fingers, and I did several passes to build the pigment up to maximum intensity to show the maximum colour achievable with each blush. Chanel’s blush formula is made to be highly buildable, so it’s almost impossible to overdo it with these blushes!!

160 Innocence: a light, cool-toned, dusty pink which is light enough not to look mauve, but dark enough to show up on darker-toned skins.

99 Rose Petale: a medium, warm pink with a tinge of red.

250 Crescendo: a light, warm-toned, pink with finely-milled shimmer throughout; this blush is Chanel’s baked European formulation – from the Chanel Perle collection.

64 Pink Explosion: a light, cool-toned, bubblegum pink with fine silver micro-glitters

87 Emotion: a medium to deep, cool-toned, berryish fuchsia

71 Malice: a medium, warm-toned, coral pink with undertones of red

80 Jersey: a medium, warm-toned honey with bronzey undertones and gold shimmers that give it a golden sheen

260 Alezane: a medium-deep, warm-toned, brown-tinged pink with golden shimmers that translate to a sheen on the skin; useable as a contour or blush shade

68 Rose Ecrin: a light, cool / neutral-toned dusty pink, which is less pink that Innocence and more neutral-toned; great shade for fall / winter; may not show up as well on darker skin tones

02 Rose Bronze: a light-medium, neutral- to warm-toned, bronzey brown with a tinge of pink and finely-milled rose-gold pearl pigments that imparts a glow to the skin

55 In Love: a medium, warm-toned, coral pink with strong salmony-orange undertones and gold sparkles which translate to a glow on the skin

190 Angelique: a light-medium, warm-toned, matte coral pink with slight orange undertones

076 Frivole: a medium, warm-toned, matte cantaloupe orange

Below are arm swatches of all the shades. There’s only one swatch photo of the pinks, but I’ll try to remedy that soon! I’ve also tagged on 72 Rose Initiale, which is a medium, warm-toned, pink with fine micro-glitters…it wasn’t at the store, but I’ve got it at home. I’m pretty sure it’s in the permanent blush line-up, so just thought I’d tag it on!
