Gigapixel Photography by Jeffrey Martin
Gigapixel photography is the craft of shooting hundreds or thousands of photos and joining them together into a single, seamless, ultra-high resolution image. These extremely large images are typically shot with a complex setup involving long lenses and a programmable robot, typically requiring weeks or months of post production (but we can do it in as little as 24 hours, if needed). When done correctly, it is impossible to tell that these photos were made from many smaller photos.
These images are among the largest photographs made by humans, ever.
Gigapixel photos can be used in a few ways:
-
Interactive images, viewed on a PC, phone, or tablet. These images allow you to pan around, look up and down, and zoom in and out. These photos can be of skylines and cityscapes, stadiums, landscapes. or interiors. I’ve shot all of these kinds for satisfied clients before.
-
Video animations: essentially a video moving around, or zooming in an out of the image (like the video at the top of this page). These videos can be used for TV commercials or other types of online videos. It is possible to make videos from these images that are technically impossible to create using a standard video camera, in terms of zoom level, sharpness, and resolution. It’s even possible to make 8K resolution videos, or even higher!
-
Large format photographic prints: These photos are among the largest prints that can exist anywhere in the world. Some of the photos you’ll see on this website can be printed tens of meters (hundreds of feet) wide, at full photographic 300DPI resolution!
If you would like to commission or license 360º, Gigapixel, high resolution cityscape and skyline photography, you’ve come to the right place.
