Graham Alexander admits he’s keeping his options open as he looks for his next opportunity in management.
The 50-year-old has been out of work since July when he paid the price for Motherwell’s embarrassing Europa Conference League exit to Sligo Rovers. Alexander had led Well to a fifth-placed finish last season – despite winning just three league games in 2022 – but bruising defeats to Irish League side Sligo turned the fans against him and the board decided to wield the axe.
Alexander – who previously managed Fleetwood Town, Scunthorpe United and Salford City – has been spending some time with his family north of the border but is eager to get back into the dugout. And the former Scotland defender admits he’d be open to another job in the SPFL, or returning down south, as he looks to bounce back from his Fir Park sacking.
He told talkSPORT: “Yeah obviously I left Motherwell just before the league season started, so I’m currently out of work and waiting for the next opportunity.
“I’m just up and Loch Lomond at the moment with my wife and two dogs, just having a nice walk around there. It’s a beautiful place, so I’m still based up in Scotland but I’ve still got my options open about coming back down south, where obviously I’ve managed before, or staying up in Scotland.
“It’s par the course really in this job that sometimes you are out, but when the next opportunity comes and you can take it, then hopefully we can get the success at the previous four clubs that we’ve managed.
“But it’s one of those, I’m enjoying watching football from a sort of independent view, where the pressure isn’t on your shoulders and you can actually enjoy a game of football, so that’s quite unusual.”
