Hero Burberry cologne – a new fragrance for men 2021

I bought a bottle of Hero about two weeks ago and wanted to wear it frequently before writing a review. In the past two weeks, I’ve worn it to work about 7-8 times and then reapplied in the afternoon at least twice.

Hero does not smell like other colognes I have smelled, and certainly not like those referenced throughout the reviews on this page. The significant use of cedar plays out in fragrant cedar on the opening and dry cedar on the dry-down. The juniper is very strong also, almost as strong as the cedar, and lasts into the dry down with just a hint of pepper on the back end. The bergamot is absent in my bottle, is too similar to other scents, or is just barely there- I can’t decide which of these factors is in play.

A few issues I have with the it so far: the projection is very limited, unless a lot is sprayed on and then it’s been a compliment getter. However, I don’t want to use up a whole bottle so fast; others have remarked that the longevity is short and that’s true. It’s usually gone in about two-three hours.

The last issue is a significant one (and maybe not an issue? it’s definitely unique to this cologne in my opinion)- it’s a “flat” cologne. What I mean is that most colognes smell layered with scents on the opening, middle, and base that fade away layer by layer, but this cologne seems to present all scents equally or “flat” on the opening. I get the fragrant cedar, juniper, and dry cedar all at the same time with a hint of pepper. The smell equal in weight. On the dry down, this factor doesn’t change much, even with the dry cedar becoming more prominent. I think it’s an interesting idea to present all scents at once like that, and it may not be intentional. But, I do think it’s a significant issue- not sure whether good or bad, yet. I would like to smell some “deeper” scents if they come out with a EDP.

Overall, I like this cologne very much- it smells unique to me. It is not a “blue” cologne or like many others, given the heavy focus on cedar and juniper. It’s not a heavy cologne or seasonal one either, but is for sure wearable as a work or daily cologne. That’s its strength. It’s not date cologne, as it’s not rich enough to entice or attract, but people do seem to like it, though it doesn’t have a “wow” factor. Having grown up in the north woods in the Midwest, it contains smells I am familiar with and love, so I’m sold.

All colognes are not equal or supposed to last forever, but a cologne can still be excellent and smell great while not lasting long. I’d recommend this one for sure.
