How to wear Burberry’s signature nova check in 2018

Yes, Burberry is officially back.

Okay, so we all knew this moment was coming. After all, during the past few seasons of London Fashion Week there has been no missing the old-school print making a reappearance on catwalk. Former creative director, Christopher Bailey, even put an eye-catching rainbow spin on the plaid for his final collection, you know, just in case you had missed the memo.

But, to be honest, we didn’t quite believe it would catch on. That is, until now.

Shedding all ties to its old ‘tacky’ status, Burberry’s signature brown check, which dates back to the 1960s, is now, once again, at the forefront of fashion.

At Copenhagen Fashion Week the fash pack couldn’t get enough of the print and hypebeasts have continually been flooding the ‘gram with ensembles featuring lashings of the check – a sight that in previous years would have made any style fan shudder.

Against all odds, Burberry’s signature style has managed to make a full recovery, reaching supreme streetwear status. The question currently on every millennials lips, therefore, is how do you wear the print in 2018?

We’ve done our research and rounded up five of the most popular ways to wear the trendy check right now:

1. Be A Burberry Queen

Head-to-toe Burberry is probably not your immediate choice, but it’s currently a celeb favourite.

Beyoncé recently slayed a full Burberry look on the On the Run II world tour, which was custom made by the brand’s new creative director, Riccardo Tisci. The unmissable ensemble came complete with gloves, a hooded cropped jacket and a Burberry checked Bey-suit.

Nicki Minaj then quickly followed Queen B’s lead, stepping out in New York wearing coordinating checked trousers, crop top, jacket and baseball cap.

If two Queens can do it, you can too.

2. Boss A Burberry Shirt To Work

If you’re searching for a sleek and sophisticated way to don the check investing in a Burberry shirt is the way to go.

Whether you wear it with a sleek midi skirt for work, throw it on with a pair of mom jeans at the weekend, or layer it over a tee for a casual day look – there are numerous ways to style the versatile number.

There are several new-in vintage oversized styles available on the site at the moment. Or, you could take note from Dutch fashion journalist Stephanie Broek and just borrow your boyfriend’s.

3. Update Your Headgear With A Burberry Bucket Hat

When it comes to Burberry accessories, we thought a cute little checked bag would be the most suitable style-savvy item. We were wrong.

As shocked as we were, there is no missing checked bucket hats on the ‘gram right now.

With a little help from the Gosha x Burberry collaboration, streetwear stars are serving up several ways to pull off the retro item, from jazzing up a simple bodycon dress to going full Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air in denim dungarees.

The question is, are you brave enough to try-out the trend?

4. Boost Your Outerwear With A Burberry Blazer

Forget about the classic Burberry trench coat, this season it’s all about the blazer.

Although it shouldn’t really work, the edgy print coupled with the sophisticated tailored silhouette has proved to be a striking combination. Especially when paired with on-trend cycling shorts and a matching bumbag. To our surprise, we want to recreate the look ASAP.

5. Be A Beach Babe In A Burbs Bikini

Yes, even Burberry swimwear is back. So, if you’re yet to set off on your summer holiday add a Burbery bikini to your basket, quick.

Winnie Harlow recently schooled us on how to ace the check on holiday. Meanwhile, Instagram is filled with ways you can wear the bikini top as a bralet all year round.
